Indicators
Appendix A — Configuration Reference
Indicators are scoped flags that can be set on tables or columns to track attributes specific to your engagement. Where notation types hold free-form text, indicators hold controlled values — typically Yes/No, but configurable to any enumerated set. Common uses include conversion required flags, data quality classifications, and phase assignments.
Fields
Name — The full display name of the indicator, shown in the properties panel and reports.
Short Code — A brief identifier used in compact views and source path references. Must be unique.
Valid Values — A comma-separated list of the values this indicator can hold. The analyst selects from these values in a dropdown; free-form entry is not permitted. Must contain at least one value. To include a blank/unset option, add <empty> as one of the values — it displays as <empty> in the dropdown but resolves to an empty string when evaluated.
Default — The value pre-populated when the indicator first appears on an entity. Must be one of the valid values, or left blank if no default is appropriate.
Active — When unchecked, the indicator is hidden from the properties panel and does not appear on tables or columns. Existing values stored on entities are preserved. This is a way to retire an indicator without deleting it and losing the data already entered against it.
Applies To — Controls which entity types this indicator appears on: Source Tables, Target Tables, Source Columns, Target Columns. Multiple scopes can be selected.
Sort Order — Controls the order indicators appear within the indicators card. Lower numbers appear first.
Notes
Indicator values set at the library level travel with the table when it is pulled into a project. If an indicator is defined in the workbook and the library table already carries a value for it, that value is applied to the project table automatically.
Indicator values can be bulk-updated across multiple tables or columns using the bulk indicator update dialog. See Chapter 3.
